    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I thought the virtual experience offered a varied and interesting selection of talks and tasks. I particularly enjoyed listening to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] talk very candidly about Dentons and what she liked about it. Similarly I greatly enjoyed the negotiating task. I particularly appreciated the extent to which Dentons staff supervised and judged the exercise as well as the feedback they provided. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to listen to future trainees discussing their application experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Despite the virtual nature of the experience I felt valued at every stage. While there were over 40 participants I always had the opportunity to ask questions and appreciated the extent to which my questions received detailed and candid answers. I further appreciated the number of personnel Dentons brought in in order to run the insight day and the extent to which each of them participated and were willing to ask questions. In particular I enjoyed talking to my group's supervisor during the negotiation section.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I felt I received an appropriate level of guidance during the experience. Guidance was particularly important during the negotiating exercise. Here I appreciated the lengths Dentons had gone to to craft a scenario which was easy to understand but still had plenty of nuances to explore. I appreciated the instructions being read out clearly when the digital video didn't work optimally as well as the fluid delivery of confidential information in our break out rooms.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that both the skills I developed and the information I received will be hugely useful to me in my studies and beyond. Listening to successful future trainees talking about their application process will be useful to me in my own applications. Similarly listening to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] talking about the firm will be useful not only in my application process with Dentons but more importantly in furthering my understanding of the legal profession as a whole. Similarly the negotiation exercise was useful in providing me an opportunity to practice my teamwork and presentational abilities.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • I thought the experience was very well structured. Breaks were appropriately spaced and were neither too long nor too short. I thought that the variety of tasks and opportunities was very interesting. The only suggestion that I would make would be to have a longer period of questions and answers during [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] presentation as not every participant got to have their question answered. However I did think that the experience had a good balance of participation and listening.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • I thought that the atmosphere during the virtual experience was friendly and welcoming yet at the same time professional. I think that the graduate recruitment team did an excellent job of making sure all the participants felt welcomed. Further I appreciated the time taken by all of the personnel involved in organising the day to answer questions fully and to participate fully despite the virtual nature of the event. I also enjoyed working with and listening to my peers.

    3/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt the firm invested to a high degree in my training and development to the extent which is possible during a single day event which took place virtually. I thought the feedback provided by the chairs of the negotiating competitions was very detailed and useful. Further I appreciated the extent to which all questions were answered fully and candidly. Further I appreciated the amount of personnel that put time into organizing the event and making it so successful.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • While the virtual experience involved training exercises rather than actual work I felt that it nonetheless gave me a good insight into what it would be like to work at Dentons. In particular I found [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] presentation insightful particularly regarding the type of work she did. Additionally I thought that the negotiating exercise provided a good simulation of work that one might carry out at Dentons. Despite the limitations posed by a single day virtual event I thought that the insight day provided a generally good level of insight.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I thought that the insight day was immensely valuable for understanding Denton's culture. I thought that [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] presentation was very informative in this area, discussing the companies values and, significantly, how these values are achieved through organisational strategies. Further, I found that these values were reflected in the organization of the day itself as well as how Denton's staff conducted themselves throughout the event. I felt that the virtual insight day provided me with a good understanding of the company culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • While I applied to the insight day having already decided to pursue a career as a solicitor my experiences throughout the event confirmed the validity of my decision. Hearing about the kind of work Dentons does was very interesting to me and reflected my personal ambitions. Further the negotiating exercise reflected my skills suggesting that these would be well used in a legal career. Generally I felt that the experience confirmed my ambitions to become a solicitor.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • While I was not paid or reimbursed directly I had no travel expenses owing to the experience being virtual. Further as a winner of the negotiation competition I was offered a choice of a 20 pound voucher or a one hour training session with a trainee. I felt that this reward was particularly valuable because it gave me an opportunity to network further within the firm and to develop my understanding of it. This reward came as a surprise and I was very happy to receive it.
