About You
I enjoyed this experience greatly. I felt I gained a valuable insight into the firm and gained useful skills. This event went far beyond other types of virtual events, in that it included a practical commercial exercise, which I felt was intellectually stimulating. The format of this event was great in that I felt engaged the whole way through. The leaders of the event were very welcoming and friendly which improved the whole experience. I felt comfortable and interested to hear what had to be said.
I felt valued in that the organiser made a point to say that this was an exclusive event which they received hundreds of applications for. This made me feel confident in my applications I have made so far with the firm and encouraged me to continue to pursue relations with Dentons. I felt valued in that I knew I could ask a question at any point and receive a helpful response. The fact that awards were given for the performance in the commercial exercise was good in that our work was clearly recognised.
The applications workshop was extremely useful in providing guidance and support. Other than that, I enjoyed that this experience was not fully focused on giving general guidance and support, which some other virtual experiences are. I felt that the time was utilised well to give direct and relevant information regarding the firm and the work that they do. I believe the commercial exercise, for example, was much more useful than a segment giving general advise would have been.
I think the most useful thing about this event was a boost in confidence in the field. As my first event of this type, I was nervous about being expected to have a variety of interesting and thought provoking questions to ask and to be put out of my comfort zone to network. This was not the case, the event allowed me to feel fully comfortable and confident for future events which I might attend. The event really showed me that such things don't always have to be as scary as you might think.
The Company
The event was extremely well structured. The time was utilised well, with a variety of breaks in between. The event was clearly split into three segments, each of which I found interesting. Speakers of the event took time to answer questions which were being asked, which made the experience a lot more engaging. The commercial exercise was a nice break from listening to speakers, which I think added great value to the event. The time seemed to pass quickly because the event was so engaging.
The atmosphere was very good. The group of participants was not too small that it felt intimidating and not too large that I felt lost in a large crowd. I knew that I could ask a question at any point, which made me feel welcome and comfortable. The speakers were extremely interesting and engaging and everyone was very friendly. Events like this can often seem intimidating, but this one did not which was something i valued very greatly.
The firm seemed to be invested in providing us will useful skills for out future careers. As it was a smaller event, there was no opportunity for great personal investment, which is absolutely understandable. Dentons made it clear that this is the kind of thing which they would explore greatly in future events held by them. We were given individual attention in the sense that out groups were given feedback following the commercial exercise, which was very valuable.
This experience gave me a valuable insight to Dentons as a firm, their values and beliefs and things they are working towards. I understand now what it would be like to work for such a large global firm. Not much emphasis was given to particular roles within Dentons and what can be expected from each area, but this is understandable given the wide variety of areas which the firm covers. Overall, Dentons did a great job at giving us all an insight to the firm.
This experience helped me understand the company culture greatly. The first segment of the experience focused mainly on the culture and values of the firm which is something I found very useful. I am confident in knowing the emphasis Dentons places on areas such as diversity and equality due to the information given at the event. I think the event summed up their company culture well, in that the firm is open to people from all backgrounds and experiences. This point was put across well.
The content of the experience has allowed me to see that I would really like to pursue a career with Dentons. The values of the firm, the work they do and their global outreach all appeal to me greatly. I know the general focus of Dentons prior to the event, but now I am confident that they are a fantastic firm to work for and I would love to pursue a career with them in the future.
Everything Else
This was a virtual event, no need to reimbursement.
There were not many opportunities for meeting with employees of the firm, but nevertheless I found the content of the event very useful. I would have enjoyed hearing from an employee of Dentons regarding their personal experiences at the firm, i.e. their area of speciality, how they find the work-life balance and why Dentons appealed to them specifically. However, I understand that there was a lot of content to fit into the time period of the event.
Given that this was a short event, there were not many social opportunities. When doing the commercial exercise we did have a chance to chat with some of the other participants of the event which I enjoyed. I'm sure that Dentons provide many other social and networking opportunities, so I did not think that this was a downfall of this specific event. We were given opportunities to speak with the organisers of the event which was a useful social aspect.
Given the structure of the event, this is not really something that was touched upon.
I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend. I found it extremely valuable in that I was given insights into Dentons in a firm and this event has allowed me to feel more confident in applying for opportunities with Dentons in the future. I found the event engaging and enjoyable and I am sure any aspiring lawyer would have gained valuable experiences from this event. This event offered everything that I feel is important in an event of its kind.
