The Role
The placement offered many experiences in different business sectors. Hard work was rewarded through monetary incentives or days out go-karting and a meal. There was the chance daily to engage with regular customers as well as important corporate customers.
Everyone I worked with was very friendly and we all got along really well. Everyone at Enterprise has the same work ethic which meant everyone pulled together during hard times but relaxed and met up outside of work to improve the team moral.
Constant support and guidance from everyone working in the branch. Managers and area manager were always available for support and the answer any questions, no matter how silly they seemed.
The days were often very very busy, long working hours with a high intensity throughout. But a great sense of achievement when everyone works together to make sure everything is completed.
During the first few months, there was not too much individual responsibility given out. However, after working at the branch, I was given the responsibility to run the branch and my colleagues independently. This improved my knowledge of the company and day to day running of the business which enhances my overall experience.
I do not think overall this experience proved too much to assist me within my degree subject as my degree focuses more on international business and this scheme focused more on day to day business. However, the management relationships and general business environment has helped me differentiate my next steps in my career path.
The Company
During busier days, the atmosphere was quite tense. However, there were times when we could relax and everyone got on really well and there was general banter in the branch which helped to lift peoples spirit.
The application and recruitment process was nice and simple and throughout, there were clear goals of what you need to achieve as well as support on how to do so.
The company had regular training sessions as well as constant support to the T&D team.
The long term career development path with Enterprise is incredible. The ability to fast track through management and be an area manager is very attractive. However, the road to become an area manager is extremely taxing, therefore it depends whether other companies can offer a better journey to become high management.
The Culture
Regular training allowed fellow placement students to reconnect and find out how everyone is getting along in their own branches. I feel as though there could be more specialised days for placement students to meet up and this only happened once outside of the training days.
I lived at home and therefore I did not have to worry about the cost of living.
There are many pubs, bars and clubs to go to. With it being a university city, the locations are often very popular.
Long working hours massively reduced the availability to socialise.
