The Role
To my surprise, out of my 3 internships, my time at Rothschild & Co was by far the best. I learnt a lot professionally and personally and even went back to continue the internship for another 4 months.
The support network I had was incredible - everyone wanted you to succeed and I have also managed to make friends for life. It was more than just a teaching experience, I really felt as though I was making a difference.
My line manager was fantastic - I learnt more from him than anyone ever before. He was the mentor I never had at school and I can attribute a lot of my happiness at the internship to him.
It really ranged but I think that because I was mainly in charge of my schedule I managed to keep things pretty balanced. If I felt overwhelmed, the support network immediately jumped to my help without making me feel like I was failing at the work load. A great lesson for the future.
It was tough trying to get your own voice heard in a big company but I was really glad that I was able to run my own sort of project. This project was also not something that was just given to me to keep me occupied, it was a lot of responsibility and I am super grateful I was granted this opportunity.
I think that the skill I am most pleased about developing is confidence. I learnt a lot about how I work, what works best for me and in turn, I have been able to adapt my methods of working in my degree for the better.
The Company
Again, I have made friends for life and a massive part of why I enjoyed my internship so much was because of the people I worked with. It was a lot more relaxed than I thought it would be and I really felt welcomed there. It seemed like a whole family and it worked all very seamlessly. The fact we could have lunch or drinks and work together on a day to day basis says a lot about the atmosphere in the office.
Pretty good really - I was contacted quite a while before to make sure that everything was all set to go ahead and then again on the day of the internship. I joined again mid COVID and so was very aware that I might not have the same level of support - this however was surpassed because they made sure I was set up alright and then had a few separate meetings during the internship to make sure it was going well.
There were many opportunities to train and develop ones skills and it was always seen as something to use to the full extent. They had lots of training sessions within the company on a fairly regular basis for skills such as the development of ones use of excel and other such platforms. Each week we had the chance to sign up to in house workshops or sessions and my line manager always made it clear that I should take advantage of them.

I would love to continue with this organisation if a specific chance arose - I think that fitting so well into a company so easily and quickly is a feeling I wouldn't want to pass up on. They definitely treated all younger/lower level employees with as much respect as anyone else and the endless opportunities to further yourself professionally and personally is something that is highly unusual and something to grab ahold of if you can!
The Culture
I lived in clapham and worked in the Bank branch - travel was about the same as anywhere else in London.
