About You
The virtual experience was so well structured and clear. This allowed for maxium engagement between the well chosen specialised speakers who gave up their time to share invaluable insight for us. Because of this I enjoyed the virtual experience to a very high extent, especially as all of the content provided to us through different speakers, the power point presentations and intruiging tasks, I was able to fully commit and perform well throughout the week.
The financial conduct authority leader Mariam was fundamental in ensuring all the participants including myself were well informed, included and welcomed. This began with a warm introductory and followed up with a lot of questions about us and our talents in which would be valuable to their company. I really appreciated how there was much networking time which allowed me to spend time and crucial insight with employees of the firm which made me feel valuable.
The support from the speakers leading us and the technical employees behind the scenes of the virtual programme was rather efficient. They offered me a laptop due to the "stay at home" and circumstances and constantly kept in touch with me to ensure I was fully packed with the information, passwords and links I needed in order to engage fully with the virtual programme. Throughout many words of advice and tips we're given to support me and my career path.
The skills I developed of fast working were especially important. The time restraints on the challenging tasks made me improve on working well under pressure and this is something that will be essential throughout my degree and career in finance. Multitasking was introduced as well as projects allowed me to decision make, communicate and present. I was also able to come out of my comfort zone during long interviews where I practised fantastic communicative skills.
The Company
The virtual experience was very well structured due to the fact there was a clear programme and schedule of the events long before the programme started. There were a good amount of breaks and the sessions were well balanced. As well as this we reverted to always having a questions time and a space for networking which meant we were always informed and / or involved. Sometimes sessions ran over but that is quite inevitable.
The general atmosphere during the financial conduct authority's women's virtual programme was amazing, encouraging and positive. As all of the participants were women and driven young individuals too, this made a very vibrant atmosphere and we were all very keen to share experiences and ambitions with one another. This was heightened by very motivational speakers who embraced the positivity in all of us by confirming the excellence of the women in the financial conduct's authority workplace.
The personal training was really professional and thoughtful. This is due to the many personal sessions that were coordinated. This included private interviews, tasks, feedback and lastly presentation observations. This really made me feel like the company was invested in me as they took time to grade and provide advice on how I could improve to be in more of a chance to get involved with an internship for the company. I really appreciated this.
The virtual experience has a scheduled time with employees where they described the opportunities and roles available to us within the company. This included an immersive internship description as well as current employees speaking about the range of occupations and departments across the company. Building on this, the morals and projects of financial conduct authority was explained in detail which really put into perspective what it would be like to work there or intern there.
The speakers well respresented integrity, ambition and enthusiasm, which is how the Financial conduct authority is described in its culture. There was always a willingness to answer questions from us about the hard times within the company - showing intergrity, the amazing projects they worked on - ambition among workers, and lastly the social events held by the company - enthusiasm between the employees and the willingness to network. This was confirmed by our many networking sessions.
The content was valuable in terms of understanding what I'd need to do to ensure a high chance of securing a place with a firm, however not much about where I'd steer my career path, specifically. I would have loved to hear more about the speicific different jobs in financial conduct authority and perhaps gotten an insight into the daily tasks done by some of the employees rather than just hearing there out of work experiences at the company.
Everything Else
There were plenty of these opportunities and I found these very exciting. We got a range of speakers and / or interviewers throughout the virtual week. This ranged from managers to interns to employees of different races, genders and fields. This meant that I was able to get a varied outlook of the company which was really helpful in understanding the dynamic of the company from different people's point of view, which I really appreciated.
I definitely would recommend this virtual experience to a friend who is of a similar age, and are studying and still thinking about what career path they would like to pursue. The virtual experience was concise and didn't take so much out of one's day yet it was really informative and felt amazing to be a part of an insight programme into the financial workplace. The skills developed here are crucial to studies and securing a good job.
