The Role
I really enjoyed my placement especially the people I worked with. This was very important as some of the days were long but as I got on well with my colleagues it made it go fast. I was given a lot of responsibilities from controlling the way the day was run to finding new business for the company. This helped with my learning and made the placement more enjoyable.
I feel that from the start due to my fast progression my colleagues treated me at the same level as them, giving me similar responsibilities and not talking down to me. Throughout my training they were always more than keen to take some time with me to go through different bits of the folder. My colleagues made me very welcome at the start and felt we had a good group. We had numerous social gatherings outside work which made us all closer.
I was given a-lot of support from my manager when i was a trainee as he helped me to develop quickly to complete my MQI Grill and successfully get promoted to an assistant manager whilst on my placement. Additionally, when I asked for information or help from other managers they were all quick to help especially when I kept asking for more. Whenever I asked for a mentor lunch they were easy to book in and were very beneficial to my learning
Pre covid the branch was very busy with a constant flow of customers coming in. This was difficult sometimes but also beneficial. This was because it made you train on the job and helped to learn at a quicker pace. Especially for myself I learn by doing things. so yes at the start I did make a few mistakes with the constant flow but it did help me to develop more quickly.
The more development I was getting the more responsibility I was receiving. I was trained very early on, on running the branch as this helped with my development and the perspective I had on the way the company worked. When I was fortunate enough to get promoted to an assistant manager I was then given more responsibility on training staff and doing work behind the scenes that a Management Trainee wouldn't see day to day.
One skill that will assist in my degree is time management. This was very important with Enterprise making sure you completed the correct runs at the right time. This will follow through in uni making sure that I am giving enough time for my learning and different assessments. Additionally, The customer service aspect of the business helped me as a person with the way I would approach and now have a conversation with a stranger, making me feel more confident in myself.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very family orientated and a jokey feeling. I feel this is down to the amount of time you spend in the branch. More than you would at home so they do become good friends. But on the other side you do know how to get each other to work well and if there was something important to do you could get it done instantly.
The placement was very organised giving s all individually folders to work through. Also the team gave us specific dates to go back for training that everyone followed to help develop the best. Every Intern follows a similar pathway with training. Additionally, all the other employees have been through the same path so are all aware of the training you need to do and sometimes you need to sit in the back office to get some of your folder completed.
Early on I took an insight into the CarClub and kept wanting to know more about it. I went on a mentor lunch to talk about it in further depth. After this I then went on numerous meetings with them to talk about different locations we could set it up. This then showed with the understanding of different services we could offer customers when they came into the branch. Additionally, with my progression to get the Grill completed I feel they invested in me more the closer I got due to my brand image and the achievement of an intern completing the section.

Due to my fast progression I have every intention to return to the company as I enjoyed working their and they invested a lot of time in me. At the end of my placement my area manager spoke to me about coming back to work after being at uni. Whilst I am in uni I enjoyed working there so much that I now work part time whilst completing my studies in final year.
The Culture
Whenever we had a training session together with other Interns it was always nice to catch up with them as you were always in the same boat of them and could always ask them for advice. Enterprise would help with the social side of the training and tended to include an activity to end the day with. Within the branch it was very social-able and we tended to do something together normally every other week
I was fortunate enough to be living at home whilst I was on placement so there wasn't a cost for me with rent or food. The different branches I was in weren't too far from my house so my fuel expense wasn't too high. I feel to socialise in Cardiff isn't too expensive compared to other areas and is especially cheaper than being in uni in Bristol. Overall I did manage to save quite a bit of money whilst I was on placement for future use.
The nightlife was very good in the area I worked as I was working in central Cardiff. The only thing was that as I grew up in Cardiff I was used to the majority of the local pubs and clubs so was quite similar whereas I would've rather adventured somewhere new.
In the area I was working in the only activity outside work was that there was a weekly football game we had amongst each other.
