    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was apprehensive at first about joining such a large company and working in the utilities sector. However, I am taken aback how approachable and helpful people in every position have been. You are given lots of responsibility and work is thick and fast. Work is also varied and challenging.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • When starting I was expecting to be given large amounts of tedious work that you often associate with your placement year. I was very wrong. Colleagues value your input on work and are very respectful and helpful around the type of work given.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The APC process at Fisher German is the best on offer in my experience. There is a solid framework in place to ensure the upmost help and support is given around this process from an early stage to ensure the best results possible. Support and guidance is also excellent for every day to day work. You are given a supervisor to work under as a placement student who are more than happy to help with everything.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy from day dot. I had a large workload which I was grateful for as I like being challenged and busy. However, my supervisor was excellent at managing my workload and we booked in several workload catch ups whenever needed. Systems were put in place to ensure others in my office could see my workload and make sure I did not have too much on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are given proper work to do with responsibility from day one. The supervisor to start off with checks everything you do and is there for questions and queries. Slowly you become more independent and start to take more responsibility on yourself but the support framework is still there for any queries.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have become far more confident in a lot of aspects that I am continuing to develop. I have learnt a lot through doing work associated with topics from my degree that I before struggled to get my head around. I was encouraged to take time out of the day to research things I was working on to increase my knowledge such as valuations and planning permissions.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Obviously starting my placement in 2020 has bought with it problems that would not normally affect the office environment. Working from home has lead to offices being quieter than usual. However, a team was created to ensure we got as much office working exposure as possible by grouping together all new starters and their supervisors and providing office space which created a really nice 'buzz'.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything went off without a hitch.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All CPD days and memberships are paid for by the firm. As well as the normal APC supervisor and counsellor you also get an APC doctor at FG. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] told us at our specific grad day that our main aim was to pass our APC which was very reassuring.
