About You
The only downside was that it was online, which took away the option of chatting with peers, trainees and employees a bit more.
The whole event was structured to give us the most valuable experience. We were treated as prospective applicants which gave a big confidence boost.
We were provided with a lot of very useful information about the firm and the application process.
The commercial negotiation exercise was very engaging and educational. It really showed us what an assessment day would look like and what skills we have to improve to become better future lawyers.
The Company
The regular breaks were thoughtful. The whole event was built up nicely from a general introduction of the firm towards more specific advice on application.
It was very friendly. All questions were welcome. There was no pressure to 'stand out' and already be the best there is. The focus was more on giving us guidance on how to improve ourselves.
I really feel like the firm provided us with outstanding guidance. We got an insight on the firm itself, and even specific advice about the summer placement applications.
We did have some time to chat to a partner. We could also speak to trainees as we prepared for the negotiation. I would have appreciated for example a breakout room where trainees would answer questions on their experiences.
It was very much focused on the company culture, which was very helpful. As I already mentioned, it would have been nice to hear from trainees personally, but the few sentences we exchanged before starting the negotiation exercise were also helpful.
I was not sure about my career plans before participating in this insight event. However, especially after the negotiation exercise I feel like it showed me that I would really enjoy this job.
Everything Else
This was an insight event, so no reimbursement was needed.
As I already mentioned, the virtual format was not ideal for this. However, the opportunity to talk to a partner was very helpful. I would like to recommend again a breakout room with trainees.
There was not much time/opportunity for that. Of course, on an open day that is not virtual, there would have been more opportunities. I feel like the focus here was to provide us with helpful information condensed in a few hours, which was done excellently. Less opportunity for networking was the price for that.
It was very interesting to hear that the firm has its own sports clubs, choir, etc. This definitely contributed to the appeal of the firm as it really seems like there is a good community within the firm.
Yes, it was very well structured and informative, especially to those planning to apply for vacation schemes.
