About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mace and although the work experience was virtual, it massively exceeded my expectations. It provided a comprehensive insight into the operations of the sustainability team and also that of Mace, as a business, within the construction sector. I feel I have benefited greatly from this experience and gained considerable knowledge about the industry. My confidence has also grown to support my future applications for career opportunities.
I felt very valued during my work experience. I received great feedback on my independent tasks which are being used to create a published report for one of Mace's live projects. I also spoke with many people at Mace who had taken time out of their days to speak to me about their role in the business and discuss my future career plans, this made me feel valued.
For my two independent tasks, I was given loads of information, instructions and support. Although I was left to do this in my own time, the team were always checking in and easy to contact if I had any issues.
Speaking with mace employees who have completed the graduate programme was very insightful, I was inspired by their experiences and opinions. I am now looking to apply to a graduate scheme as I am confident it is the best option for me to enter the industry without a construction background.
The Company
I thought the structure of the programme worked really well, I was able to sit in on a range of different meetings which may not have been possible if the work experience had been over a shorter amount of time. Having meetings which were spread out over the course of multiple weeks and getting a timetable in advance also gave me the ability to work around my other commitments on my two assigned tasks.
Everyone I spoke with was friendly and more than happy to answer my questions and give advice. I really enjoyed my work experience as I got a feel for what it's like to work for Mace; each employee I spoke with seemed to really love their job and the company culture.
I spoke with a range of Mace employees who each had a different role within the business. Despite each person sharing very different experiences, they all spoke fondly of working for mace and enjoyed their jobs.
Each person I spoke with at Mace was very friendly and more than happy to give advice and tips to myself, who is looking to enter the industry. Everyone seemed to love their job and spoke highly of the company culture.
Speaking with mace employees who have completed the graduate programme was very insightful, I was inspired by their experiences and opinions. I am now looking to apply to a graduate scheme as I am confident it is the best option for me to enter the industry without a construction background. Throughout this work experience I have learned so much, only about the construction sector, but also about Mace as a business. I feel that it is a company that I would love to work for in the future.
Everything Else
As it was virtual, I did not have any expenses that could've been reimbursed.
I had numerous 1-2-1 talks with people in a variety of roles at Mace.
Each person I spoke to was more than happy to answer my questions. People had very different routes into the business and were happy to share their experiences. I received lots of advice and tips for applying and entering the industry and was also passed on contact details of other staff members who I could contact and speak to about their role in the business.
I sat in on lots of meetings regarding extra-curricular activities and charity events at Mace. It is evident that mace is a very sociable place to work and has lots to get involved with.
I couldn't recommend this experience more. From someone who doesn't have a STEM degree or any construction knowledge, this experience really opened my eyes to the world of construction and understand how my skills developed throughout my degree can be used in the industry.
