    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed my insight into Clifford Chance. The scheme allowed me to experience a broad variety of areas of the firm. We had multiple presentations that covered the firms practice areas and also allowed us to have an in-depth insight into the deals the firm works on. We were also able to have insights into the firms networks and pro bono work. This was on top of some fun yoga and cooking socials too! The broad range of experiences really made the insight enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt really valued during my virtual time with the firm. I think it would have been very easy to feel disconnected through a computer screen - but my experience was the opposite! We were consistency kept in the loop with the plans for the scheme and what the structure would look like. During the scheme and after we were also regularly asked for feedback - and it was really clear that it was taken on, discussed and implemented! We were also invited to come to the office whilst we were offer holders which made us feel valued from day one!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a lot of support and guidance during the insight. Prior to the scheme we were given very clear guidance on how the scheme would run online and what to expect, and were able to have a 'trial run' social ahead of the insight too! Graduate recruitment were always on hand to answer questions, no matter how small or irrelevant the question was, which was really appreciated. It was also nice to be added to a group chat with the other students on the scheme without members on the firm on - as this could allow us to talk and get to know each other in our own time, forming our own support circle.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The scheme was invaluable in contributing to my degree studies and beyond. With regards to my studies, the insight helped me with my analytical ability through taking part in challenging case studies that required me to research and condense a lot of information onto a task. Beyond my studies, I have learnt how to effectively communicate and work as a team on a virtual platform, and have really developed my understanding of how the 'business world' operates as a whole!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was really well structured. I enjoyed how there was a similar working pattern each day, with slight changes in social activities like yoga and lunch with trainees! I also really enjoyed how we had the evenings to work independently on tasks so that we had a slight amount of flexibility with our time. Being able to use InsideSherpa (Forage) to host the scheme really helped with planning time and being up to date with the presentations.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I felt that there was an amazing atmosphere on the scheme. Everyone from Clifford Chance was very approachable and friendly, it was also clear that everyone internally in the firm got on well, which was really nice to see as a participant. The other students on the scheme were also energetic, and we were always encouraged to get to know one another which created a really supportive and friendly atmosphere - it was great this came across on Zoom!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear the firm really invested in us on this scheme. We were given exclusive access to the Clifford Chance Academy where we were able to take courses on Building a Successful Mindset and Communicating Effectively. Prior to the scheme we also had a workshop with The Smarts to make us think about our mindset heading into the virtual scheme. During the scheme, we were also given the opportunity to take part in work that would mimic that of a trainee to develop our professional work understanding.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight gave me a really good understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm. We were able to hear from people working in each area, and at each level, of the firm, so were able to have a really broad insight. The tasks that were set also gave us a great idea of the work we would be given if we were working at the firm.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The broad insight we were given on the insight really gave us a great insight into the company culture. It was clear that the company operates as one company on a global scale, as we were offered perspectives from offices around the world. We were also given opportunities to ask questions about the firms internal networks and pro bono opportunities, these sessions really proved to me that Clifford Chance has a collaborative culture that goes beyond just the firm doors and into the wider community.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content on the scheme helped me decide that the legal path with Clifford Chance was the one I wanted to pursue - so it was extremely valuable in helping me decide my future career path! I think the most valuable content here was the content centred around the firm's practice areas and the day to day operation of them. This really helped paint a picture as to what working at the firm is like!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm constantly throughout the scheme! Every day, multiple times a day, we were introduced to new people and also had the opportunity to talk in smaller groups. Prior to the scheme we were also able to meet in-person the office to network with other students. Post the scheme, the firm has been in touch inviting us to events and giving us new opportunities to network with new people!
