About You
I enjoyed hearing the CEO of Dentons speak about the diversity initiatives. It was refreshing to see a CEO join an event as they are very busy people but it just showed how active the firm is to ensure there is diversity in the workplace. I also enjoyed the networking session because I got to speak to partners in Energy, International Arbitration and Construction who had trained at the firm and had seen the firm grow globally which was an insightful experience.
I felt that the participation of the CEO as well as networking with partners showed me that there is great emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. All the partners that I interacted with in the networking booths were actively participating in diversity initiatives at the firm. I was pleased that pro-bono work was also related towards billable hours and the fact that there is a high emphasis on giving assistance to those who cannot access legal aid. The firm culture seemed very friendly which I am pleased about.
I was given guidance in terms of the application process of Dentons Vacation Scheme and insight into the new training contract subjects that they have introduced which was fantastic! It was promising to hear Partners at the Firm speak of their growth at the Firm and the changes they have seen throughout their years in practice. The Partners shared their tips and things they wished they knew about prior to being a trainee which was helpful to put things in retrospect.
The virtual event I think has given me great insight that was bespoke, which I feel will assist me to tailor my application and answer the question of 'Why Dentons'. I got to know some fantastic diversity statistics which makes Dentons stand out and the reason behind emphasis on innovation at Dentons. Moreover, I am got insight into what key skills the recruiters and partners at looking for in a trainee although there is no specific criteria.
The Company
It was very well structured. There was an introduction from the CEO of Dentons UK and Middle East Offices. He talked about his experience and how he got to his current position which I found very interesting. Then there was graduate recruitment at hand to give an introduction about the application processes and tips on what to do and what not to do. Then finally there was the networking sessions where I had to opportunity to speak to partners and Graduate Recruitment at the Firm.
I felt that everybody in the session was very friendly; from Graduate Recruitment to the Partners and even the groups for which we were in the breakout rooms for- I even got to joke with some of the group members. The Partners were very willing to answer any questions I had and it was great to see how passionate they were in their chosen field of Law, which made listening to them even more delightful.
I think the diversity event was specifically designed to encourage a pool of diverse candidates why Dentons is a great place to work at. The firm seemed very proactive in recruiting diverse talent which aligns with my morals. The Partners that I spoke to seemed very keen on diversity also, and were actively involved in various diversity initiatives including pro-bono. I think the event was a great way for prospective candidates to get engaged in Dentons culture.
Speaking to the Partners gave me a good understanding on what the expectations are as a trainee, especially in the Construction sector. When asking the Construction partner what excited them about it and what can a trainee expect to do, it was interesting to hear the vast amount of responsibilities you can be entrusted with, whilst you are a trainee at Dentons. This was good for me to envision what progression I can make in my career at Dentons.
The virtual experience was insightful because I got to gain a deeper understanding of the firm's culture at Dentons. As there was a smaller pool of people, I was able to ask further questions, to have more knowledge of the firm. Furthermore, I am happy that I will be able to talk about the diversity event in my application to demonstrate that Dentons is a great place to work at where diversity and inclusion is valued.
The content was very valuable in helping me decide whether I can see a potential career path at Dentons. The content firstly covered what aims of the firm by the CEO of Dentons and the commitment towards diversity. Then I had an introduction from the Graduate Recruitment team about the application process and what to do and what not to do. Finally, there was a networking session with partners at the Firm to know what it's like to work at the Dentons.
Everything Else
The reason why I was not paid was because it was a virtual event for a short period of time.
Yes, there was and that was my favourite part of the session.
The networking opportunities were great because I got further insight into Construction Law, International Arbitration and Energy. The speakers were very friendly and easy to talk to. They were very happy to answer questions I had about the Firm and were very enthusiastic talking about their areas of expertise. I enjoyed the networking opportunities because the speakers seemed very pleased with the questions I was asking them. From the speakers, I was also able to get a feel for the culture of the firm.
Yes. One of the members in the group asked the question and the panel said that there were various initiatives for employees to get involved in. One of them being pro bono initiatives at Dentons which is actively encouraged by the CEO which sounds great. I am happy that the firm strongly encourages helping those who cannot afford access to legal aid. The firm seems very proactive at encouraging its employees to be involved in a range of activities.
Yes I would definitely recommend Denton's virtual experience to a friend because the opportunity is a great experience to gain a bespoke encounter with partners at the Firm, as well as ask Graduate Recruitment specific application questions. Furthermore, as the event was diversity-focused, it gave me a fundamental understanding of the diversity initiatives, as opposed to just reading about them on the Dentons website. The networking was also a great opportunity to ask graduate recruitment questions.
