Overview
I attended timetabled sessions ranging from practice area overviews to a presentation by the Firmwide Managing Partner. I completed work for my Principal - such as researching letters of credit or drafting an agency fee letter. I set up virtual coffees with lawyers to build my network and gain insight into the firm.
Skills
I honed my resource and work management skills by successfully balancing the project task, work assigned and timetabled sessions. I developed my interpersonal skills by setting up six virtual coffees and gaining insight from the firm’s lawyers about my areas of interest. The client pitch exercise improved my commercial awareness, teamwork and oral/written communication skills.
Business Insight
It was very insightful. I learned how Linklaters operates as a commercial law firm. This included how lawyers work from deal origination to completion. However, it also included the role of business teams and the firm's innovation arm.
Culture
Very inclusive. The firm has an emphasis on 'one team' and 'integrity' as two of its values and it lives these in practice. For example, I tested positive for COVID-19 near the end of the scheme and the level of support was incredible. Everyone I spoke to during the scheme was warm, open and eager to offer insight.
Your Impressions
Very much - 5/5.
Yes
Iron out your specific reasons for applying to Linklaters. Engage with the firm before you apply to show your motivation and gain insight into the firm. Do this by attending virtual events (e.g. Legal Cheek) or trying to get on to one of the firm's pre-application programmes or workshops.
