Overview
The role entailed Linux kernel/driver programming in the C language and some Python programming for automating processes. Tasks varied between driver bug fixes, feature implementations and helping speed up the automation pipeline process.
Skills
Greatly improved system programming + software design skills, as well as learned Python and source control management.
Responsibilities
Surprisingly, there were many tasks of various difficulty assigned to me. At all times I was treated as a full employee and given both challenging as well as trivial tasks. One big responsibility during the placement was creating a Python script that greatly helped in reducing the complexity of the sourcecode repository.
Support & Guidance
I was always able to ask any team members / managers about guidance when getting blocked on a task.
Culture
Very relaxed. I joined the team expecting a corporate office atmosphere, but the opposite was true. We had casual chats and even went out to the pub a few times.
Your Impressions
I greatly enjoyed my placement and I can fairly say I got more than what I bargained for out of it.
