Overview
A typical day of the online placement involved several talks from people who worked in conservation. We also were placed in break out rooms where we could vocalise our opinion.
Skills
I haven’t learnt any new skills, however I did learn new information. For example how meditation can be used within a forest to help bring kids close to nature.
Business Insight
I originally had no idea what jobs were available in conservation. Now I know there are multiple jobs, not just as a teacher but as a media engagement person or even collecting data for conservation projects.
Culture
The people working at BCP council are very friendly they are happy to answer any questions you have via email or even popping a question in on the zoom chat box.
Your Impressions
I really loved listening to how different people got into conservation. From working with kids to being a scientist there’s so many different career paths you can take. I also liked at the end we got set a project and the project winner will have their ideas hopefully turned into a reality!
Yes
One speaker told me that females were less likely to apply for roles if they don’t exactly fit the criteria. So my advice to anyone applying is go for it! You never know if you don’t try. Also Brian the head said he gives feed back for rejected applications which is very useful to see where you went wrong.
