Overview
Dealing with suppliers daily and having a big input into the business as a whole. We manage the fleet services the company provide and act as people in the middle for both the customer and business so if and when something goes wrong or issues occur then we step in and solve the problems at hand. In short, this role is constantly solving problems which keeps you thinking.
Skills
I have developed my Excel skills as in this role I use this daily and have found ways to reduce my time spent doing task via shortcuts available on Excel. My written communication also has improved as email is the main method of contact and therefore choice of words and way of writing has improved as the placement has gone on.
Responsibilities
Yes, it started off as learning and understanding what was required to be done. But once I understood the task at hand I was given full license to do these independently but also had that support if I needed it. Now I am in a position where I feel comfortable with everything and am given new things which may not even be in my role but have the confidence in me to carry out.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot but that is because this role covers a huge scale in the business and has a lot of information that needs to be absorbed to get to grips with the role. It was challenging but I had all the support I needed and still do which is key for anyone who is new to this type of environment.
Culture
Very relaxed and welcoming to enable me to settle in easily to the role and team. our suppliers and many individuals within the business took the time to also speak to me and introduce themselves.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement highly and has been better than my expectations. The reason for this is because of the amount of responsibility you get in this role. Its not about just helping out and taking some workload off others but more about making a difference and improving the team.
Yes
I would advise others to be themselves and to show what you are capable of and can offer in this role. Also to be able to communicate effectively as that is needed daily and to have efficient IT skills would be handy as time to tasks would reduce if skills were of a higher level but this is also taught and trained if not at that level.
