Overview
Day-to-day the role involves performance reporting, stakeholder management, project co-ordination and communication skills in order to successfully act as a go between for different areas of the business in relaying information in clear and concise way, and providing reporting for management to make decisions based upon.
Skills
Communication and relationship skills form a key part of any role, but particularly this one as the department acts as the go between for the brands and the financial services operation. Therefore being able to effectively manage relationships and communicate information clearly is a key skill. I have particularly developed my reporting and IT skills as being able to visualise and make decisions based upon data is key, so supporting that has grown my skills.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of key responsibilities where I would be solely responsible for certain tasks, and also given lots of freedom to explore different areas of the business, and pursue projects in these areas.
Support & Guidance
I recieved plenty of support during my placement, and was always given guidance by people I could rely on at relevant times. People were always more than happy to help and support me, but also give me freedom and catch up with me at a later point if that suited me better.
Culture
The company culture was always friendly, and even in a difficult year due to lockdowns etc, the business would try to show their support and keep the culture present even when at home. This wasn't always successful and it could differ by department/team, but I always had a good experience.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement and it has given me immense opportunities to create value for the business, whilst also developing my soft skills and professional skills. I would highly recommend the brand management function to those looking to grow a wide range of skills during their placement year, and also VWFS as a company as there are many opportunities to grow as a person and an employee.
Yes
The best advice I can give is to be prepared for interviews and assessment centres by having done your research as it makes a big difference to have a strong understanding of VWFS and what the business does and how it operate because when answering questions you will come across much better.
