    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The overall purpose of the insight was to gain an insight of the workings of the many areas of Savills. The days involved presentations from various members of various departments, group activities with other members of the Insight programme involving giving a group presentation to the 100 participants, as well as Q&A sessions with both directors of Savills and those on the Savills graduate programme. This was all carried out on zoom.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I would definitely say I have. My interest in Savills stems from my Agriculture degree, and thus the relatively small food and farming sector of the Savills business. I have gained a huge insight into the property world that Savills largely operates in, as I was stupidly very ignorant of the mechanics of this sector at Savills. I have also gained very useful insight into the food and farming sector at Savills as I hoped, especially how the food and farming graduate pathway works.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • I found this incredibly useful - I, wrongly, was quite ignorant of the sheer scope which Savills operated in, and although I knew Savills had far more divisions than only the food and farming sector with which my interests most align, I don’t think I truly understood how many roles and opportunities the business offered in so many different areas, and although these were largely based around property, property is often not the key section of the roles, which suits my interests.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture and atmosphere was incredibly friendly, open, inviting and enthusiastic for us to learn. Every person talking or answering questions were clearly not just there because they had to be, everyone wanted to share their hard earned expertise with us, and it was clear to see they viewed us as the future of the industry. Everyone within the business clearly put their hope in people, everyone seemed to enjoy working together, exemplified by everyone’s desire to get back to the office and escape working from home.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight programme, it was fantastic to learn more about the actual world of working in such a large and diverse company, and gave me insight that university just cannot. As I’ve already mentioned, the culture of the company really seemed to be putting their emphasis, hope and trust in people, and despite the programme only lasting three days, I already felt included and inspired by this ethos.

  • 7. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • By what the employees have informed me, I believe Savills want people who are enthusiastic, willing to learn, ready to adapt and just generally those people who share the trust and emphasis on people and group work that Savills themselves clearly emphasises. To quote one of the directors at Savills, they want people to ‘be like a sponge’, willing to learn all that they can and willing to take part in anything that is offered to them.
