Studio Assistant Intern Review

I've started to work at Dragana Perisic as an intern studio assistant, working closely with the designer and owner of the brand. I've been engaged with various tasks, from sewing, cutting, technical drawing, administration, management, assisting/ taking/editing product pictures, customer service to guiding the interns for their daily tasks.

I have a fashion design degree, most of the technical skills I learned from university, yet I had a great opportunity to refine them through Dragana’s guidance. Dragana’s insights were a tremendous help, grasping the feel of a fashion brand in the real world. Assisting with the process of developing from concept to final product, I’ve learned to make valuable decisions in production like minimizing material waste and measuring manufacturing costs.

As a studio assistant intern, I’ve been tasked with the responsibilities you can expect from such a role involving multitasking into several projects at once, organising the studio, replying to business emails, scheduling the daily tasks and guiding interns. Also, I’ve been involved in every step of the brand, getting meaningful insights to build up my career; and those covered creative tasks including garment construction, toiles, technical drawings, cutting and sewing fabric.

Dragana Perisic is a person of high standards and that pushes you to go far and beyond your goals, It’s a great place to put in action what you’ve learned, develop and perfect your skills every day, I felt my opinions were valued and taken in consideration in every step of the working process.

I liked that I was engaged with various activities that kept me productive. I enjoyed the structure of our main tasks; we had side projects curated for each of us, so whenever we were finishing our daily tasks, we would go back to that. This helped us to always be effective with our time.

I liked that I was constantly engaged and taught new things on how a small business runs in London. Fantastic environment to grow and develop your skills. I’ve worked with a creative team and I was pushed further each day. Dragana is a perfectionist and has the experience to give guidance and an honest opinion. The shop is brilliant with unique items that helps you to value a high standard of fashion.

Bring your best game at the interview and treat it as a real as you would when applying for a job. Make the extra effort in presenting your portfolio and bring physical media to support your presentation. Take a second look over your work and make sure it’s relevant and well finished. Be relaxed and ask questions because Dragana is happy to give you helpful advice.
