    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Terrific. The graduate team prepared a fantastic three days of events. I will note - some of the information may be geared towards first years rather than those in second year who have had an opportunity to gain experience in the industry; some of the content is oversimplified and I was already aware of much of the content focusing on application skills.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • DLA Piper's culture was not what you would expect of a corporate law firm operating on a global basis. It appears that there is little formalisation in the firm's hierarchy and trainees are heavily involved from the beginning. DLA Piper clearly values secondments and pro bono work, which is enticing as a potential applicant.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed. The graduate team has buckets of enthusiasm and it truly rubbed off on all of us. I had technical issues on the morning of the second day and the team was responsive and helpful in aiding me to connect to the zoom function. On that note, the graduate team did a fantastic job of maximising the utility of the virtual experience.

  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
  • Don't assume that corporate law firms want productive robots who are solely focused on their work. Let your character and experience shine through in the application and be honest about your strengths and areas for growth.
