Overview
The insight was a 3 day event held virtually. There were a number of speakers ranging from a managing director to trainees. We were given the opportunity to complete practical task modules in due diligence, commercial awareness research, drafting and advising a client.
Skills
My due diligence and commercial awareness research skills are greatly improved as I got the chance to practice these with guidance from the trainees. I also learnt how important it is to tackle imposter syndrome and how DLA Piper supports this.
Business Insight
All the speakers were highly engaging and relatable when discussing their own roles and business areas which was reassuring for any budding solicitor. They didn't shy away from explaining that at times it can be tough but with the right support network around you, the job is highly rewarding and manageable.
Culture
Very warm and welcoming. All the trainees and partners who spoke at the programme understood the importance of enjoying your work and enjoying the company of your colleagues which ultimately aids business growth and development. There are also many employee networks available which are well known and supported amongst employees.
Your Impressions
I loved every moment! Over the 3 days there was a real sense of community built up between the attendees, graduate recruitment team, partners and trainees within the firm. The firm didn't focus too much on explaining every single sector in detail which can often make the insights feel long and boring. Instead they focussed on sessions that were engaging and relevant to those who are interested in learning more about the law. If there was a session to work in small breakout rooms to speak to my fellow attendees, the insight would've been perfect so I am hoping they implement this in the future.
Yes
Make sure you are passionate about the business area you choose to write about as I believe this comes through to the graduate recruiters who read the applications.
