Overview
The days started off with a welcome from the head of Graduate Recruitment who went out of her way to make us all feel welcome despite it being virtual. Each day there was a trainee spotlight session where a trainee would talk about their journey into commercial law and provide us with tips going forward. There would then be around 2 or 3 main sessions per day covering different topics such as pro bono.
Skills
I enhanced my knowledge of how law firms operate and DLA Piper's strategy. The sessions put on by Graduate Recruitment helped me to understand how to perfect applications and do well at Assessment Centres- seeing these from the perspective of recruiters was really helpful.
Business Insight
We were given a comprehensive overview of the business but the insight was geared towards commercial law. As a result, although the sessions did briefly mention other roles within the firm, the Insight Programme did primarily focus on being a solicitor.
Culture
The Graduate Recruitment team went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and let us know that they were on hand should we have any questions or problems. All of the speakers from trainees to partners were very personable and engaging. They were all very down to earth and conveyed that DLA Piper is a very friendly firm.
Your Impressions
The sessions were all engaging and relevant. The timetabling was perfect, none of the sessions felt overly short or overly long. The ability to access senior firm leaders and Graduate Recruitment was invaluable. All of the speakers were engaging and warm and I felt like I took something away from every single session. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the insight and felt like I was able to get a taste of DLA Piper's culture.
Yes
Its clear that the firm values diversity and a range of different experiences. Be yourself and try to let your experiences shine through.
