    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The entire programme ran according to a schedule we were provided prior to starting. Each day would begin at 9:30am with a briefing about the days activities - which included talks, workshops, networking sessions and some fun social activities. We also had a group project which we were working on during the programme, in preparation for a presentation at the end of the week.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am from a non-finance background, and this was my first real exposure to the financial sector. I learned about Investment Banking through talks from different divisions, but also though chatting to bankers directly about their work. The whole week was interactive, so it has allowed me to further develop my 'professional' interpersonal skills. The project also provided ample opportunity to learn about various aspects of the M+A process.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Although I had researched prior to starting, the Horizon programme allowed me to really grasp what the different divisions do in practise. It has definitely broadened my perspective on the roles available to me. I surprisingly found myself drawn to their Debt Advisory division, and admittedly I didn't even know what corporate debt was before the programme!

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The programme was virtual, so it was naturally more difficult to get a real feel for the company. From the experiences I had with those I interacted with online, everyone was warm, welcoming and open to helping out and answering any queries. Overall, I had a great first impression of the culture.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it, and to be able to meet so many amazing women in the industry has been empowering to say the least. We had an icebreaker on the first morning which was hilarious and put us all at ease right away. Admittedly, the group presentation was slightly nerve racking, but this was such a massive learning opportunity and definitely worth the few minutes of presentation jitters.
