    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I'm a Technical Specialist Intern in the Microsoft Technology Center within the solution ' Sales' Specialist team. My daily focus is to essentially bring the business value of Microsoft Mixed Reality product 'The HoloLens 2' to different customers. I provide a Mixed Reality session to customers telling them customer stories about the HoloLens as well as demoing tailored solutions to their industry specific.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my placement year at Microsoft, I have gained a lot of new skills, such as time-management which is really crucial when working virtually. I have learnt how to prioritise important tasks and stay focus. I have also developed my communication and team work skills deeper through my customer sessions and collaborating with my team when for example brainstorming ideas in a group.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes- I have a number of responsibilities from preparing for my customer sessions, to demoing and providing the relevant resources to customers. I was also involved in a number of projects, where I would do HoloLens demo at events. I am also part of the 'Intern Committee' team, as a one of the Marketing and Communications lead in which I help design and create newsletter for interns.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a tremendous amount of support during my placement year from my team and the University Microsoft HR recruiters. For example, we were encourage to do take our well-being days, learning day, volunteering day. There's was also a drop support session in our calendars in case we had urgent questions about our internship. I attended a number of self-development training sessions relevant to my roles which really helped me a lot.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I enjoyed my time at Microsoft, I believe it is a great company to work for, they really valued my personal and professional growth. I was able to speak my mind during meetings or team brainstorming, in which I felt empowered to suggest my ideas.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I think I enjoyed it so much because, I really liked my role where my team has trusted me to do the key customer engagements. I also loved the Microsoft's culture of staying open, so I was able to get my manager' support at all times. Moreover, I loved the team atmosphere, and the energy everyone brings to the table, so I felt that my work was being valued, and it was making an impact.

  • -Talk about how you want to grow professionally and as a person. -Find what inspire your to apply, whether that is something you watch about 'Innovation' your passion on Technology, etc, and speak about that during your interview. -Research Microsoft, it's background, people and culture. -Practice your presentational skills and speak with passion.
