Overview
The day involved attending various talks on different aspects of the firm from digital communications to alternative dispute resolution. We had the opportunity to network with different solicitors at the firm to further understand the various practice areas. We took part in a negotiation session where we undertook the role of solicitors settling a dispute for our client.
Skills
I developed my negotiation skills during the alternative dispute resolution, specifically how to make sure that we do not leave clients vulnerable during negotiations. I also developed my analytical skills through the case study workshop as I learned how vital it is to pay attention to minute details in order to extract the correct information and reach the required answer.
Business Insight
Sometimes it was a bit overwhelming as some areas were very technical however it was exciting. Understanding the intersection between business and the law, and how lawyers play a role in the big stories you see in the Financial Times and Independent was very intriguing.
Culture
Everyone was very friendly and willing to help and advise. They made us feel like every question was valid and really went into depth when answering our queries. They also portrayed an inclusive atmosphere as I talked to one trainee about their steps towards equality and diversity.
