    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The programme was virtual given current circumstances. The insight programme consisted of various talks from a wide range of different people. This included talks introducing us to the different parts of Global Advisory hosted by female bankers as well as a training session hosted by Fitch Learning, providing us with an insight into the technicals surrounding investment banking. Additionally, we also had the opportunity to have a networking session as well as a virtual coffee catch up with our buddies.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The programme has on a whole allowed me to enhance my own professional skills. One of the skills the programme helped me develop is my teamwork skills. This is because through out the programme we were assigned a task where we had to present a deal. This allowed me to work in a team with other people and develop my teamwork and communication skills. This experience also really enabled me to improve my presentation skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The insight programme provided me with the opportunity to learn more about the business. This is through the various talks hosted by bankers on the different parts of Global Advisory. I also had the opportunity to learn more about the business through a talk hosted by the Archives team, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding into the rich culture of the firm. We also got the chance to learn more about the potential roles available through HR.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was incredibly warming and overall very friendly. Although the programme was virtual, the general atmosphere of the programme was positive and motivating. It was lovely being surrounded by my fellow interns as well as the employees at Rothschild & Co. We also got an insight into some of the extra things the firm does outside of its core business. This is through the talk about Community Investment. We also had a social session.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the programme as a whole. It provided me with a really good insight into the culture of the firm. I also had the opportunity to learn about the different parts of Global Advisory as well as other divisions at the firm too. Despite the programme being virtual, I don't think this affected the quality of the programme. I also thought the programme was very well structured, allowing us to have breaks in between the sessions.

  • 7. Would you recommend Rothschild & Co to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co
  • For the numerical test remember to practice beforehand. It would also be useful if in the cover letter you really do your research on the firm, and make sure your motivations are clear from the beginning. For the assessment centre remember to practice your competency-based questions as well as your motivations for applying. There was also a group element where we had to discuss a topic with other people within the assessment centre.
