Spring intern Review

We took part in interactive presentations and workshops. We had the opportunity to present to Fidelity employees and get their feedback on those presentations. The presentations offered to us came from experienced employees within each sector, allowing us to learn more about the ins and outs of Fidelity as a company and how it is run.

I have learnt more about the basics of asset management. As someone with very limited knowledge of the technical terms of asset management and investing, this week has given me a greater understanding of certain topics. Especially fixed income and how bonds fit in to the wider market.

I found this very useful. Hearing from the graduates in particular who were recently in the same position as myself offered great insight into the routes available for me. I have found that ESG is the sector that I am most interested in with an interest in equity research also. Being able to learn about all the aspects and roles has allowed me to realise my own interests.

The insight gave a great impression of the company. In the networking sessions, everyone spoke very highly of the culture and how much help they receive in terms of well being and support. A lot of the employees said that they chose a career in asset management and at fidelity in particular because it is so friendly and allows you to pursue a career in finance whilst also leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

I really enjoyed the week. Of course it would’ve been better to be there in person and interact with everyone face to face but considering the circumstances I thought it was a great week.

Take every opportunity to interact and network because you can meet some really interesting people and learn a lot. Talking to people with different experiences to you (or more likely more experience in finance) helps you get a new perspective on things.
