Overview
As first-year students, they offered us an insight into the world of a commercial lawyer. Due to covid the presentations and workshops were held online. We listened to presentations from partners and got the chance to network with associates and trainees. Further, we took part in a wonderful and fun "how to make chocolate" class.
Skills
I definitely learned a lot about the work of lawyers. I received an insight into the firm that I am not able to acquire through online research. Through the ADR workshop and tips given along the two days, I developed commercial awareness skills. Although it was online, I was still able to develop my communication skills (thanks to the network sessions).
Business Insight
In that regard, it was extremely helpful. As a first-year student, I could not imagine what a day at a commercial firm looks like. I understand what I would do as a trainee if I join an international and elite law firm.
Culture
The people were extremely friendly and helpful. Although they all have busy schedules, they took the time and answered most questions after every presentation. They also encouraged us to stay in contact with them. The company seems to enjoy a people-centric culture that encourages its workforce to grow as lawyers and individuals.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed meeting all the people and the fact they shared their experience at the firm was extremely insightful. I will definitely try to receive a place at their vacation schemes that would hopefully develop into a training contract. I really liked the ambience.
Yes
For the application really research the firm. Their values (Pro-Bono, D&I) and their expertise in litigation. For the assessment look again into the values of the firm. It will give away a lot. For the question about your interest pick something you really enjoy. Surprise them. they love to be entertained and learn new things through the answers to that question.
