    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight programme was a day long event featuring guest speakers from within the firm and external guests giving talks on personal branding and development. The first half of the day was largely educational introducing the interns to the world of Tax at EY and the various sub-service lines that are available at EY. The second half was primarily talks given by noteworthy individuals to help us develop as we progress through our careers. Overall, great!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, the talks from June Sarpong and Bianca Miller helped greatly with this. They offered their experiences and advice for us undergrads to apply for our future development - extremely insightful. As well as this, I gained a firm understanding of the EY Service Lines. Also, my problem solving skills were put to the test during the Friday Social event as we were tasked with completing an escape room in groups of 3 and 4. We came 7th.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • On the whole, it was a positive experience however given the event was only 1 day, each aspect of the firm was explained briefly and once. Some extra detail or a resource pack with additional information would have been useful for clarification on the sub-servicelines. The introductions given by current employees was very helpful and the quiz at the end with descriptions of the roles helped solidify our understanding but like I said, some written content to mull over would've been great.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Atmosphere was fantastic! No gripes here. Having attended multiple insight programmes in my first year at uni I can undoubtedly confirm that the people at EY seem the most friendly and helpful. Definitely a significant factor for me when choosing a firm to work for in future. On multiple occasions we were asked to contribute and ask questions which were met with helpful responses and understanding. Felt completely welcome and valued as a member of the cohort.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I definitely enjoyed the event greatly including the Friday Social Event. As mentioned earlier though, some extra resources to read or gain a deeper understanding of the sub-service lines would be useful. Also, some more networking opportunities would've been great as I only managed to connect with a few others during the programme. Nevertheless, the insight was enjoyable and the Friday Social event was the icing on the metaphorical cake. Really enjoyable and a fun experience.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • Ensure the culture is what you are looking for because it differs greatly from more traditional practices. My experience in consultancy and investment banking firms was very different. Therefore, an applicant should consider this factor heavily when applying to EY. Also, ensure you apply to a service line which you want to end up in for your career as this is give you the easiest transition from Spring week to Summer internship to full time contract. Other advice would include attending campus events hosted by EY as this will help you gauge an understanding of the business before the insight experience.
