Overview
We listened to talks about EY as a company and what they are involved in. We learned what kind of roles and responsibilities technology graduates could be part of, as well as talks about diversity and inclusion within EY and the wider workplace, and how to build a personal brand. We also learned about our next steps and how to apply for a summer internship or graduate scheme through the fast-track program that leads on after this.
Skills
I learnt a lot more about EY as a company and what they value in their employees and graduates. The talks about building a personal brand and diversity really boosted my self-confidence and encouraged me to present myself more boldly. The talk on personal branding helped me understand all the different aspects of business presentation, many of which I had never heard before. I improved my collaboration and networking skills through getting to know fellow students on the scheme.
Business Insight
I found this part of the insight day very interesting, as I was unsure about what all the different roles entailed in terms of day to day responsibilities and tasks, and what skills they were looking for. This was especially important for my internship application, as it helped me narrow down what roles I wanted to apply for and what roles would best suit my strengths. However, I felt it could have ben a bit more concise.
Culture
I found the EY student recruitment team very friendly and warm, they made the virtual components of the insight day very clear and easy to understand and helped people stuck with technical issues very quickly and thoroughly. I felt really welcomed by them and would be excited to meet them again and potentially even work with them again. They seemed very engaged and happy to meet us and work with us, and presented EY as a really appealing and inclusive place to work.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight day very much - I was immediately made to feel valued through EY sending me free gifts in the post (as we would have got them at the insight day if it had happened in person) and through hearing about the celebration day by email. I learned a lot about EY as well as diversity and inclusion, and am very happy to have been given a fast-track opportunity to apply for a summer internship.
Yes
I would tell them not to worry too much - the application process is really simple and they have a dedicated student applications help team (who I had to contact at one point!) that are really understanding and helpful with any issues you may have. I had a few data issues in my application and I was assisted really throughly with them by a member of this team. I would definitely recommend they apply, even though it might seem intimidating I actually found the application, especially the job simulation, very fun!
