    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • It was a jam-packed day, with loads of scheduled activities. It included speakers both external and internal, and they gave an honest insight into the line of Assurance at EY, as well as motivational tips and tricks in the work place. There was a panel interview session where we got to ask current EY staff about their experiences and any questions we had. There was a chance to interact virtually with other students too in a breakout room doing a case study. We also learnt about EY's D&I policies and approach.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Networking skills, teamwork skills, personal branding skills. We learnt about how to network with staff at companies and learnt how to develop our personal brand and uphold it to a good standard for our future employers. I also developed my teamwork skills by working through case studies and tasks with people I had never met. It was challenging to do teamwork virtually but very rewarding in the end. I also developed the ability to be more forward with questions and not be afraid to ask.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was really interesting, and an experience you would not have by just searching online. It was so important to hear from the staff, and their personal experiences about how they got to where they are. The staff were at different points in their career, some were senior directors/partners, and others had only been with EY for a few years. It was really helpful to hear about the breakdowns of each sub-line of EY and how they each operate separately and together.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was extremely accepting and welcoming, I was almost slightly surprised. At EY they make a real effort to be extremely diverse and inclusive. not only that, the staff who helped us throughout the day were so friendly and kind, it made it extremely easy to feel comfortable and ultimately made me become more involved in the event. The EY company culture is something that really inspired me, and the general atmosphere was very warm and friendly.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a really compact day but it was filled with important information and talks and meeting people that might be working alongside me one day. It was great because we got some short breaks too, and that kept us from spending too many long consecutive hours on the screen. It was a great experience that was really eye-opening and genuinely made me more interested in EY for the future.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • I would advise those applying to EY to have a really good attempt at the tests and answer honestly and openly to the questions asked in the interview stage. When you get to the insight day, be sure to make the most of it by taking notes, asking questions about things you're unclear about, or things you want to know about the recruitment process, as this is a uniquely insightful experience. I would also recommend networking with others who are on the same insight programme.
