Overview
The vacation scheme was held online. It involved several seminars and a trainee panel on training at the firm. It was insightful as to the company culture, the type of work undertaken by trainees and the training structure. The vacation scheme also consisted of daily tasks, which could range from writing client emails to detailed analysis of contracts.
Skills
The daily tasks helped to develop research and analytical skills. This is particularly true when considering tasks that involved researching and analysing complex subject matter for clients, where clarity and conciseness in structure and thought are important. This scheme also develops time management skills as, during the day, there is a need to balance the attendance of calls and training sessions with that of working on the daily project.
Business Insight
The vacation scheme provided great information about the business. There were several discussions about the business strategy and strengths of the firm in comparison to competitors. Furthermore, a lot of time was spent explaining and examining the role of a trainee within the company. Particularly, the vacation scheme was very informative on the opportunities available to trainees during the training contract.
Culture
The company culture is incredibly friendly and inclusive. The vacation scheme provides several events to get to know other participants as well as the trainees. The company also has many initiatives targeting inclusivity and diversity. Furthermore, the company has a strong pro bono focus.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight I got as to how the company works. It was particularly interesting speaking to trainees and associates about the company.
Yes
My advice for applying to the vacation scheme is to make your application answers really firm-specific. Make sure that you've attended events and looked up the company online to find out how they stand out when compared to their competitors.
