Overview
Throughout the scheme, we had a number of presentations organised to give us insight to specific elements of the firm (such as Inclusion & Diversity Strategies). We were also given time in two seats, with Associate supervisors and Trainee buddies, who gave us different interesting tasks mirroring work at the firm. We were also able to receive info and advice directly from our buddies and supervisors, which was particularly beneficial.
Skills
Yes, definitely! For me one of the most significant benefits of the firm was finding out what types of tasks trainees carry out day-to-day. For example, this often involved research tasks, so I was required to analyse large amounts of information whilst sifting out the key points, which I then had to feed back to my supervisors.
Business Insight
The Scheme was extremely insightful. We were given multiple opportunities to ask questions to employees at all levels at the firm about life at Dentons.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere was very open, which resonated with me in particular. Everyone I met was friendly and happy to talk to me and answer any questions I had. I definitely felt welcome and comfortable, even as a vac schemer at Dentons.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight, and the whole experience, as I felt it was not only fun, but also interesting and invaluable as an aspiring solicitor.
Yes
I would try to gain as much insight into Dentons as possible before applying (think Open Days, Law Fairs etc.) as this will definitely help you stand out in applications. When it comes to interviews or the assessment day, obviously it is important to represent yourself professionally and demonstrate your skills, but do not be afraid to show your own personality, and highlight your own personal experiences also!
