Overview
Mornings started with a daily briefing from the recruitment team. This was an opportunity to find out what was happening on the day ahead and ask any questions regarding the programme. Next, there would be a number of talks and presentations, for example, about the company or different business areas. Each talk would be very interactive with the ability to ask questions to the speakers throughout. After, there would normally be a networking or social event, followed by a daily debrief. Finally, after the say was concluded we had time to work on our team project which we had been set for the week along.
Skills
On the programme, I greatly improved my technical understanding through the Fitch learning workshop. I also improved my networking and soft skills through the highly interactive presentations, coffee chats, and networking opportunities with bankers at the company and my spring-week buddy. Alongside these, I also expanded my general commercial and industry awareness through speaking to people at the company and business focussed presentations.
Business Insight
Across the week we had interactive presentations about the business areas. These were great opportunities to learn more about the different sectors and roles available. Alongside this, we had access to bankers through networking sessions and panel discussions to learn more about each business area. These were also great opportunities to learn about the company's unique culture. Overall, the programme was incredibly informative and useful at explaining the business and the roles available.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, collaborative, and friendly. Even the senior bankers who were involved in the programme were very down-to-earth and easily accessible. There is also a culture of loyalty. Most of the senior bankers joined at the start of their careers. As such, there is a great understanding between juniors and seniors. Overall, people were always willing to have a conversation and genuinely seemed to enjoy the culture.
Your Impressions
The insight programme was fantastic. Although it was online, the week was still so informative and there were so many opportunities for interaction with bankers and fellow interns. We learned about everything from the history of the firm to the different community initiatives, and I feel as though I have a much better understanding of what the company actually does, what sets it apart, and what the culture of the bank is like.
Yes
Rothschild is a unique company in the sense that it is family owned and is purely advisory. I strongly recommend potential applicants to research these topics and understand how they set the company apart. Furthermore, culture is hugely important. I recommend potential applicants reach out to bankers to better understand what the culture is really like and whether they would be a good fit.
