The Role
Team and working environment is not intense, felt comfortable and confident in my role.
Many of my colleagues didn't even realise I was a placement student
I was given great support by my manager and was pushed to rely on my own judgement and initiative to resolve issues and complete a given task
In the beginning I was not as busy as I wished I was as department's objectives were still not clear and staff changes took place but in several months time projects started and the workload got balanced and kept me fairly busy
I felt underestimated in the beginning however in time when you gain team's trust you will surely be given more complicated work.. and you can always ask for more if you feel you are not given enough
there was a well structured organisational training during the Induction period and also opportunity for Project Management and Six Sigma training was given which was really beneficial for successfully completing my responsibilities. I believe the knowledge and practice would help me gain high grades in my final year research project and courseworks. I wish there was a software/ERP training as well as companies greatly rely on accurate data management.
The Company
The office was really quiet most of the time due to the fact that the people around were working in System support and talking wasn't essential but my team was cheerful and we needed to participate in teleconferences most of the time.
some of the responsibilities outlined in the job description were not given to me however new projects came along. Also there were quarterly reviews on how I was getting on with the placement which really helped me to better understand the goals I need to complete and structure my overall work for the next quarter
opportunities to participate in different types of training was given such as product knowledge, project management, six sigma project member.. also, the quarterly individual reviews helped to identify personal development needs and plan on with your manager on how to improve gaps.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Working from home
I was offered a role however due to my studies I was told to contact my team once I finish uni
The Culture
There were 19 students so it was good having siblings around
Cost of living was a lil bit expensive and social life was not something I would come back for! The area is more relaxed and quiet.
only pubs around, if you want to go clubbing, you would need to spend a lot on transport to go to other towns nearby.
there was the Community Involvement Team and the Sport Society so you are given an opportunity to meet some new people and do something worthwhile for the locals
