Overview
The role involves a lot of internal communication between different markets as well as within the team. I help create marketing & PR materials and distribute them to EMEA markets. Daily internal interactions often include assets requests from local teams, so I ensure our asset library is organised. Main projects are related to new show launches - I help organise and host press junkets with show creators and talents, draft press releases and coordinate orders of branded products.
Skills
The new skills I learned include deeper understanding of and the ability to identify PR & marketing objectives, as well as hosting and organisational skills. I also learned how to work on new softwares and platforms, for example PeopleSoft, Dropbox, Mailchimp etc. The role also helped me develop my existing skills further, especially time management, problem-solving and communication. It enhanced my ability to create PowerPoint presentations, as I learned more about how to make them more eye-catching. I also became more confident in daily interactions.
Responsibilities
Yes, I felt positively challenged by the amount of responsibility my tasks included. The tasks I was given felt important and gave me a lot of space to grow. It was satisfying to observe that as time went on I learned how to do them with less and less instruction from my supervisors. I definitely feel that the year has taught me a lot of useful skills that I can apply in my future career.
Support & Guidance
I felt very supported during my placement, despite working remotely the entire time. I had regular calls with my supervisors and the opportunity to learn and get advice from the wider team as well. My line managers asked me what my interests were and invested additional time in teaching me about the areas I found interesting. They were accessible and were checking in with me frequently to ensure I had the support I needed to complete my tasks and grow as much as possible during my time with the company.
Culture
I have been working remotely for the full duration of my placement so I didn't fully get to experience the company culture and general atmosphere. However, the company did their best to ensure we felt connected, by organising online social events and initiatives. There were volunteering opportunities, as well as online forums where people could connect with one another. Company's internal website published interesting articles about what is happening within different branches of the organisation, with a special section for inclusivity and diversity issues and initiatives. Over the course of my placement I participated in a few interesting sessions and workshops around diversity.
Your Impressions
Despite working from home, I've had a great experience and enjoyed my placement a lot. Working in the entertainment industry means that even more mundane tasks are interesting when you remember the exciting projects they are attached to. I obviously hoped to experience working from the office and meet the team in person, however given the circumstances I couldn't have asked for a better placement year. I like the people I work with and would definitely consider working there after graduation if given a chance.
Yes
I enjoyed the application process and meeting everyone on the assessment day. I would recommend getting familiar with the brands you would be working with, but also to think about questions to ask during the day, get to know what employees like about their job.
