Overview
My role is to carry out tests at both a module and system level. This often involves fault finding too. I have also helped with the analysis and documentation involved in designing electronic hardware.
Skills
I have learned a lot of practical skills as there are plenty of opportunities to work in the different labs on site. I have also developed my ability to think analytically such as during fault finding.
Responsibilities
Yes they are keen for placement students to take on responsibility for tasks, often working independently and with sensitive equipment.
Support & Guidance
I was constantly supported by my supervisor, who was a chartered electronic engineer, so was perfectly placed to give me advice on the sorts of things I could improve on.
Culture
The company has a very friendly culture, everyone has always been very helpful no matter how busy they are. There is also a large social side to the company, especially among the grads and placement students.
Your Impressions
I thought the placement was great, the work felt rewarding and I could feel myself progressing throughout.
Yes
Never be afraid to ask questions, even if you have to wait for an answer, it's better to do things right than to rush them and do them wrong.
