Overview
Each day was packed full of talks in which we gained nuanced and recent insights into the various work that different divisions within Citi undertake. There was an opportunity in the majority of talks to ask questions to the speakers which was also incredibly useful. Also, there were various interactive sessions including Amplify Trading simulations which gave us the chance to meet other interns and operate in an environment of friendly competition.
Skills
I certainly used the Spring week to continue developing my networking skills. I met various fellow interns in some of the various activities and it was nice to be able to reach out to other interns and discuss the simulations that we were working on together.
Business Insight
It was almost enlightening to learn about all the different business areas and how they fit together in the grand scheme of things. Mobility was a key characteristic which was mentioned time and time again during the week and this was ever apparent in most talks that we had because the core skills that are acquired for most business divisions are versatile so employees sometimes move for the Corporate to the Investment bank.
Culture
Citi's culture is embodied by mobility and careers development is strongly facilitated by the firm as employees are given further opportunities to reward them for their hard work and efforts. In general, Citi's outlook is forward-looking as indicated by the various networks it has in place to create an accommodating environment for all people to work but also in terms of aiding the wider world, Citi has numerous initiatives to increase equality.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight programme very much as I learned ab lot about the different business areas and exactly how they fit together and provide tailored services for different clients. It was nice to hear first-hand experiences of senior employees and business managers telling us about their time at Citi which was much more useful and stimulating than trying to gauge the culture from researching online.
Yes
Be genuine in your approach and your application; it is important to be who you really are and not there person that you think you need to be to apply for the position. Also, keep an eye on Citi in the news and the various initiatives that it has recently put in place and try to network with people within the bank to get a close to first-hand experience of life at Citi.
