Overview
The role is very diverse with no one day being the same. The role involved tasks such as the testing and reporting of procedures, carrying out audits, ad hoc reporting that is sent to various stakeholders within the business and also data correlation and analysis of data within Contract Hire, additional products within Fleet etc and producing monthly reports to present this data.
Skills
Within my placement I have learnt a variety of new skills from training that was provided by the company, for the Undergraduate Cohort. One key skill we developed was presenting. We took part in a Powerful Presentation course, which was ran by an external company, in small groups we understood the structure, presenting style and how to tailor our presentations to a variety of audiences within the business, a highlight of my placement year!
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility, particularly around 3 months into the placement that continued to evolve as I became more experienced. The role involves regular monthly Undergraduate tasks e.g. audit tasks, however, the company focus on developing individuals by offering greater exposure into numerous tasks, for example, being involved in projects that collect and present data to senior management.
Support & Guidance
In my placement, I received significant support and guidance, particularly from my line manager, from day 1 having the guidance of understanding the job role & regular 1-1 sessions to monitor my performance. Also, guidance was provided from the wider teams, and other employees of the company, even working from home, there always felt like a strong support system and the ability to ask any questions.
Culture
The company culture has a strong 'community' feel with people willing to help everyone, for a uniform approach to create a better culture and overall working environment as there always feels that someone will be there for you if you need any help or advice. The company had a strong focus on charity and giving back to the local Milton Keynes community, with regular initiatives and donations being provided.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I feel that I have learnt a significant amount from an amazing team that helped me to develop skills as I carried out my placement, enabling me to go out of my comfort zone, to continuously develop myself and expand my skill set. The overall placement exceeded my expectations due to the time and effort placed into the development of undergraduates.
Yes
Do your research on the company, understand the culture and the sector that VWFS operate in, but most importantly throughout the application process make sure to be yourself, particularly in the assessment centre, as this is key and helps reduce any nerves you may have.
