    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to support the wider team with research and creative ideas on how to help our existing partners promote Disney+ with the intention of gaining new and more subscribers. My daily role includes reviewing creative content that partners come up with, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating useful documents to summarise campaigns that we have executed.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • In my time at Disney I have developed my industry experience and expanded on what I had been taught in lectures at university, such as analysing a real campaign and learning what worked, what didn't and how to use this information to help make the next campaign better. The company also host monthly training courses in areas such as learning Microsoft Office better, or helping create a personal portfolio.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given what felt like a lot of responsibility for my position. After only 5 weeks I had hosted my own zoom call with a new partner that we were taking on board, taking them through the do's and don't's of working with Disney. By the end of my internship I was given the responsibility of hiring my replacement intern, which included going through CV's and setting up the process.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance on my internship from across the company. In my team I had 4 other people who I could rely on for different aspects of my role. The company also has an Internship Programme that allowed us to communicate and connect with other interns so we don't feel alone, which was especially helpful during the work from home period.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I found the culture and general atmosphere of Disney+ really warming and welcoming. A lot of the people who I came across had once been interns at Disney themselves and had worked their way within the company. As Disney+ is still classed as a new company/brand to the overall Walt Disney Company, everyone was still learning the ways so there was no animosity, even senior staff are more than happy to interact with interns.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I've really enjoyed my placement, so much so that I am hoping there is a position available for me once I finish my degree. There is so much opportunity within the company and Disney+ is just one aspect of the company. With it being a global company too, it has expanded my knowledge on what it's like to work in an international setting. Being able to network globally has been amazing!

  • 7. Would you recommend The Walt Disney Company to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to The Walt Disney Company
  • Not to be disheartened if you don't succeed on the first round. I originally applied in December 2019, and by February I was told that all positions had been filled. In July I received a phone call saying a position had opened up and they wanted to interview me. I never thought they kept CV's on file and actually looked back at them, but they clearly do, so don't lose hope!
