Internal Control Systems Undergraduate Review

On a day-to-day basis, my tasks may vary. You work across Financial Crime, Compliance and Risk Control teams and constantly adapt to new tasks to assist with the detection and prevention of financial crime. Within Compliance, you are responsible for identifying changes in the regulatory landscape . Working across the different teams within Internal Control Systems(ICS) means that, you interact with a wide range of people both internally and externally.

I have learnt and enhanced many new skills from a variety of workshops and training sessions throughout my placement year which include : Excel, PowerPoint Presentations, Personal Development, Life Skill sessions, Peer Mentoring and other sessions which are focused on your development throughout your placement year.

I definitely was given a lot of responsibility during my placement year and was allocated to my own individual cases which I had to progress. Assistance was always offered and given when needed however, you were given meaningful tasks and had a great deal of exposure to business activity. You understand that your role does contribute to the wider business and the work that your carry out helps to make a change.

Support and guidance during my placement was always offered and I felt comfortable asking for assistance. My Line Manager was great and would always seek to find the best opportunities to make the most of my placement year. Everyone who I interacted with including the wider team and other business areas, were always happy to set out time to discuss any interests I had and help where they can. Another great initiative was peer mentoring.

As I have been Working From Home during the entirety of my placement year, it is difficult to review the general atmosphere. However, from joining in on team calls I understand that VWFS have a major role to play within Local communities and charity initiatives. The company culture welcomes an open and honest environment where colleagues are welcome to give feedback on how they feel and steps are made to improve on any issues raised.

I really am happy that I did a placement year at VWFS and I would definitely go back to VWFS if the opportunity arises.
