    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work within a finance team, supporting with forecasting and quarter closes etc. for the team and our business partners (e.g. marketing teams). Most days are filled with team meetings, meetings with business partners, and the preparation for those comes as running actuals, updating files, or consolidation of information/templates.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • You are given a lot of responsibility in this role, which has allowed me to really further develop skills such as: Excel, presentation, communication and team work. I have also further developed time management skills, as we often work with multiple deadlines. The company also provide a program of modules that you take throughout the year to develop skills, such as Emotional Intelligence, which are great for your future career.

  • I have been given a lot of responsibility in the form of creation or updating of files, as well as some presentation to other team members/business partners. You are given a lot of help with tasks, but also the space to work on them by yourself, which allows you to really develop your skills.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement much more than I expected (especially considering it was virtual, so we did not know what to expect from it!). I enjoyed it because of the work and level of responsibility given to me, but also mainly because of my team, who really made us interns feel like we were valued members of the team. If I had the opportunity to go back, I'd take it in a second (although they don't currently offer graduate roles)!

  • If you had any doubts about applying, just do it! It's a really great company to work for, that offers a great placement scheme and lots of development opportunities. Some advice: Make sure you tailor your CV/cover letter to the role, and if you go to an assessment day - make sure you have done some research about the company, but also just be yourself and show that you'd be a great team fit!
