Overview
I complete weekly refreshes that track the spend and savings of projects across Disney, I also produce reports that get handed to the finance analyst to analyse. I work the majority of the time on Excel, but also on programmes like SAP and Ariba. I reach out to the further team very frequently regarding errors on projects or asking for updates so I can track the progression on Excel.
Skills
My Excel skills have increased greatly as I wasn't very used to using it before, I have learnt to develop new formulas for existing reports. My communication skills have also benefitted as I keep in contact with a team of around 20 people and ensure I'm available to answer any questions. Finally, my organisation skills have developed as I have multiple responsibilities that I need to prioritise.
Responsibilities
I was given gradually increasing responsibility during my placement, my Manager ensured that I was given tasks that I could learn from like finance analysis. I have fairly repetitive day to day responsibilities so I remain quite busy but if I wasn't, I could probably make more of an effort to ask for more responsibilities.
Support & Guidance
Despite being virtual this year, I recieved a lot of support from my inner team and any time I needed help/support I could reach out via Skype and get an immediate answer. My line manager was also very good at giving guidance and made sure that he advised me, if I sent an email for example, where I could improve.
Culture
As I was working from home, I'm sure it was very different to previous years. The interns had a group chat where some things would be organised but not many so I don't think I had a 'typical' experience at Disney.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship - my team were all friendly and were available if I needed. Again, I was at home so I didn't have the same relationship with them as previous interns would have but the experience was as good as it could have been given the circumstances.
Yes
To make the most of the large scope of the business- if there are multiple areas you are interested in, reach out to other teams and see if they would be interested in you shadowing them for a day. Ensure you do some practice Excel tests as if I didn't, I doubt I would have progressed past the assessment day!
