Responsibilities
Yes!! Working at HPE, you sometimes forget that you are an intern. You get treated as a valued and appreciated employee. HPE are very focused on career development and want to get you involved in as much during your placement year. There are so many opportunities to get involved with that expose you to different parts of the organisation. Say yes to as many opportunities as these are opportunities to learn and develop.
Support & Guidance
My Line Manager is very supportive and considerate. This was really appreciated, as the majority of my placement year was virtual due to COVID-19. I had weekly 121 calls with my manager to discuss plans for the week and to monitor development. The wider team that I work in are very supportive and are always happy to help. As an intern you get a mentor, I speak to my mentor once a week and discuss development plans. The support at HPE is unbelievable, you can speak to absolutely anyone and they will always be happy to listen and support where possible.
Culture
It was fantastic. There are so many opportunities to get involved with outside of your role. One of HPE's values is we believe in the force for good and they definitely do. As part of Early Careers there is a Committee which is split into Marketing, Networking and Volunteering. There is a fantastic volunteering platform, which showcases volunteering opportunities and how to log your hours. There are also various Employee groups for example Diversity, Women@HPE and Pride. In addition, there is also a young employee network as well.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my time on placement, working within an inclusive team and early careers community. The company culture showcases care and consideration. It over exceeded my expectations and I would definitely love to come back.
Yes
- In regards to the interview process always use the STAR framework - examples are key to demonstrate that you have the skills for the role. Always be yourself. - For your first day, be organised, punctual and confident within yourself. It's ok to be nervous as this is completely normal and shows that you care - What inspired me to apply for HPE was the culture and inclusivity of the early careers community and employees, as well as the opportunities during your placement year that are offered - Tip: dive deeper into the organisation: what are the values and beliefs of the organisation? What recent events have they done? What have the early careers recently done?
