Overview
Liaise with internal teams and external licensees - communication for all things marketing and PR Create and modify powerpoints for internal and external use Keeping the theatrical release calendars up to date for internal team members and publishers Take minutes for weekly and bi-weekly meetings to then share key points with your team Every morning and before end of the day you check your OPA inbox to check if any new submissions have been filed or completed.
Skills
I have learnt so much about how a real business works, working as a team and also independently - being left to focus on own projects or communications with people has really help grow my confidence and independence. I have developed my communication skills - how I email certain people, when taking calls or even pitching to licensees via zoom - it has been a completely different experience, it is a lot harder to sell your pitch over a zoom than when you are in a conference room.
Responsibilities
Yes, I think I have been given a lot of independence, even at the start of my placement I had to learn all the systems and technology at home alone, because we were not in the office. My manager and supervisors encourage me to have calls with our licensees on my own and feed back anything that is key or they need to know. They also pushed me to work on my own particular project and develop that e.g. I looked at how we could work more efficiently and effectively with our PR and Social Media team to help all of us work better with our licensees
Support & Guidance
I have received a lot of support from my team and line manager - reassuring that if I ever need help or stuck they are there to help, but also letting me be independent and work out my own problems by myself. Also, the support from the Disney Intern Programme has been great - learning new things and enhancing skills every month has been great and I have definitely used a lot of what I have learnt in my Disney job and I will use them in my final year too.
Culture
The sense of community is strong at Disney, every month there are multiple calls, townhalls and much more that Disney offers every cast member to be involved with. A lot of activities and calls with directors/actors - whether it be general conversations about their roles at Disney or films they have been in to discussing the crucial topics of racism and diversity. I have learnt so much about community, inclusivity and diversity whilst being at Disney and I feel alot better educated.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement - I have learnt a lot - transitional skills and business skills and I have met so many great people inside the company and externally. It has been a real shame I have not been into the office as this was a massive WOW factor at the assessment day - it really did blow my mind. But hopefully in the future, at some point I will get the chance to work in the Disney office.
Yes
Be yourself. During the interview process and the assessment day - yes they want to know that you to know 'your stuff' but they would rather you fit into the team and you learn, than you already know everything and therefore will not learn. Even if it isn't the exact role you applied for - you learn so so much in any role. I applied for marketing, I actually did a placement in Publishing. I learnt so so much and wouldnt have changed it.
