Overview
Ensuring cash is getting into the business on a monthly basis, a wide admin role for many of the reporting processes, assisting co-workers in tasks/projects, improving internal processes, working with other teams within working groups and designing new and improved models for documents that will be used by the wider business.
Skills
Improved my communication skills, presenting technique, learning new accounting fundamentals, Excel skills, skills in certain accounting/database programs, work/time management, tackling hard problems, working within groups to find a common solution, resilience when a difficult situation arises and creating something that is specified to a stakeholder's needs.
Responsibilities
Yes, once I showed my worth within the first few months of my placement, I was entrusted with more responsibility. I was surprised when they gave me the important responsiblity of ensuring the funding, for our biggest project, from our customer comes in every month. To gain more responsibility you need to be enthusiastic and ask your manager for more opportunities.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support from everyone around the business as well as there being user guides to provide guidance around certain tasks/processes.
Culture
The culture within finance was to provide a high quality output to the wider business whilst ensuring all of our processes ran efficiently. There is a very friendly atmosphere which makes it easy to get along with people you may not even know and it feels like everyone is very supportive of each other.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement, even whilst working from home for the majority of it. You are given lots of opportunities to strive and you will fit into your team and into the business straight away.
Yes
You will really benefit from a job at BAE if you strive to find/create new processes that can replace existing outdated ones. Being a team player is highly valued due to the large amounts of interaction between all areas of the business. Last of all, being analytical and a proficient problem-solver will make you stand out.
