Overview
I help create email campaigns for Studio releases and other LOB communications, and run the end to end process. This involves liaising with up to 13 markets and multiple teams across different LOBs, collecting their content and feedback, and handling the reviewing and approving process with the teams and our creative agency to ensure the deadlines are met and campaigns are sent out on time. I am also responsible for collecting and analysing the results to share with the teams.
Skills
I have participated in monthly modules as a part of the Intern Programme. Through this I have learnt/ developed the following skills: - Project Management - Teamwork and Accountability - Emotional Intelligence: Self Awareness & Resilience - Microsoft, PowerPoint and Excel skills - Personal Branding - Time Management - Presentation skills I have also learnt more professional skills like how to manage expectations and handle last minute changes to projects. I've learnt how to tackle issues and solve problems independently, without having to involve my manager. I have also learnt how to communicate more professionally over emails and business meetings.
Responsibilities
Yes, as I was working from home during the whole internship and did not have my manager next to me at all times, I found that I took initiative and took on a lot more roles and responsibilities than what was expected. I felt like I had an important role in my team and that the work I was doing was meaningful. My opinions were valued and taken into account, and my team often trusted me to make final decisions on projects. I was also given the opportunity to set up and run entire campaigns independently, but was always given support if I needed it.
Support & Guidance
I had daily catch up calls with my line manager, in which we would go over the plans for the day/ week and she would make sure I had enough support on my current projects and that everything was running smoothly. We had a wider team catch up every week to discuss larger project plans and raise any questions or concerns we might have had during the week. My team were very keen to support me if I felt too overwhelmed with tasks, and would keep checking in to see if I needed help with anything. If I had a problem I could either send an email or arrange a call with my manager and she would advise on how to solve the issue. However, not being in the office did create some challenges as sometimes it could take a while to get a response via email.
Culture
There were many diversity initiatives and extra events & activities to get involved with. The Intern programme offered monthly workshops and set up many charity events that we could volunteer for and support. Of course these were all hosted virtually seeing as no one was allowed in the office. As they were all virtual, I found it hard to get involved with extra activities because I didn't know who would be taking part or whether I needed to be there or not. Also, because I hadn't got to meet any of the other interns in the programme, I felt quite nervous to get involved in those social events and activities. However, the general atmosphere was very welcoming and kind. You can tell that Disney really value their employees and will make extra effort to spread awareness and educate people on important social and cultural issues.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Disney. The role and responsibilities exceeded my expectations and I felt like I have gained a lot from the experience. My team were very welcoming and have made me feel appreciated throughout my time there and have expressed how much they would love me to come back. The work itself was exciting and challenging and always kept me busy. There were so many different elements to my role, so I never felt like I was doing the same thing every day. I would love to work for Disney again in the future and hopefully get to experience the office environment!
Yes
- Be confident and be yourself during the interview process, they value personality just as much as experience! - Make sure you show a keen interest for the role itself as well as the company. - Be prepared to take on a lot of responsibility as the interns are essential members of the team. - It can be a fast paced environment, so be prepared to get stuck in as soon as you start - Be willing to help out wherever possible, the best way to learn is by doing so the more projects you help with at the start, the quicker you'll get a hang of the process - Don't be afraid to ask questions, but also don't shy away from taking initiative! Especially if you're starting from home, you might not have your manager there to guide you every step of the way, so trust your abilities and be confident when making decisions.
