Overview
The role was really dynamic, every day was different. I rarely had nothing to do and got involved in many activities. There wasn't a lot of technical aspects of finance covered and most of the work included admin and HR based work such as planning and organizing events. I had monthly and weekly tasks that I was accountable for but every day was different depending on what the team was working on.
Skills
I think this year has allowed me to develop many interpersonal and soft-skills rather than technical skills. I greatly developed my teamwork, planning & organisation, presentation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Responsibilities
I was part of a really small team so I was given responsibility to do very valuable work that even got presented to Senior Leadership teams. I was also given alot of exposure and did some work with the Chief of Staff to the CFO which was amazing experience and allowed me to work on 3 finance projects that increased my commercial awareness of the business.
Support & Guidance
I receive so much support from my line manager who was amazing from the get go and really tailored activities to what I enjoyed doing. I also got to join a mentoring scheme which paired me up with someone on the grad scheme in Finance which was very insightful and helpful to me.
Culture
The GSK culture and atmosphere was overall really positive and reflective of their values. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating to catching-up and allowing me to learn more about them and their career journeys.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement, although it was fully virtual, I believe it had an amazing impact on me and my future career opportunities in developing really important skills that employers are looking for.
Yes
Make sure you really understand the company (i.e. research beforehand) and apply the values to every question you get asked. I would also say to be your authentic self to see if GSK really is a good fit for you.
