Overview
Worked in a team of Engineers on a variety of projects in Oral Health. Was originally given own projects to run but Covid restrictions meant that these were delayed. Had the opportunity to get very involved with STEM activities with schools and also in other groups.
Skills
The main skill I have improved is my communication. There are lot's of opportunities to present and chair meetings which has improved my confidence. I have also improved my organisation, prioritisation and decision making skills through working on various projects and with various teams at the same time.
Responsibilities
I would have been given more responsibility had it not been for Covid. I was given responsibility for reports and various pieces of work but not of a project.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance. The team was all very friendly and willing to help and the 1 to 1 meetings with my manager helped greatly. I was also given multiple mentors both in graduate roles and in leadership roles which assisted my development by setting clear goals and objectives for the year.
Culture
The culture is very friendly and approachable, they organise many events and socials which allows students to feel integrated within the team. They also have many diversity, charity and volunteering initiatives which members of staff can get involved with.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it greatly and would like to work for the company again after I graduate. The number of placement students at the site meant that when Covid allowed we had a good community. The team were all very welcoming and wanted me to get the most out of the placement that I could.
Yes
Consider what you want out of the job. The number of placement students they hire is much more than the number of graduates so the graduate jobs are still very competitive even applying internally. It is a great experience still and would have been even better without Covid restrictions.
