Overview
During my time at oracle my day to day tasks consisted of completing tasks set by our manager as well as aiding developing useful tool for teams to use. I also took part in many meeting from team meetings to more expansive company wide meetings
Skills
I learnt many skills during my placement including enhancing my teamwork, presentation and programming skills. I also learnt a full new language in the form of javascript and react js. The most important skill I have acquired is learning to think like a programmer in order to come up with ways to solve programming problems and learnt many new methods on how to approach the problems.
Responsibilities
We were given responsibilities in terms of developing tools to aid the teams in weekly tasks as well as were responsible for completing tasks set by our line manager
Support & Guidance
I received wide range of support and guidance from many different aspects of Oracle, our line manager supported us and guided us through the internship as well as aiding in helping find other people that would help us to complete our tasks. We were given a wide range of support access and guidance to problems with a caring attitude and a sense of genuine helpfulness from the manager and team
Culture
Due to the covid pandemic there were little face to face activities and events, however, the team did participate in many virtual activities such as a baking challenge as well as a weekly office zoom meeting which was a weekly catch up. Oracle Belfast created a really good atmosphere and sense of togetherness even through the pandemic
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at oracle, the work has really developed my programming skills and have allowed me to complete tasks I thought I never could. The team was also very friendly and welcoming and were always there to provide support and to help if I had a problem. Oracle met and exceeded my expectations and I would definitely go back if I had the chance.
Yes
Make sure that you understand the fundamentals of object orientated programming as well as make sure that you have researched the company in terms of the Belfast office. A good cv is also a must as well as personal side projects which was very welcomed and has the potential to boost your standing. Don't worry if you blank during the interview or don't know a term its not the end of the world
