    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In this role I would need to oversee an inbox that requests would be sent too. I would then need to process these requests and undergo some review and analysis of what is being asked for, as well as completing some routine security checks. I would then present these requests to senior staff members in my division on a daily call, and proceed to accept or reject such requests following the call. In addition to this, analysis of what was being agreed to or not agreed to would also need reviewing to ensure a bias was not being maintained.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills. My excel ability has improved a lot, with plenty of on the job training and involvement here. Youtube is also a big hand here if you ever do get stuck! The ability to manage my time effectively and efficiently around other duties was also possible in this role. A confidence in presenting daily and responding to a variety of partners via email was also beneficial to have. Many skills can be earned in this role.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During the placement there were a magnitude of different projects and programmes to get involved with that required lots of responsibility. The management of high value customer accounts and data here being just one example. One benefit here is that beyond your main job role, taking on additional responsibilities is encouraged but not mandatory and can be perused in your own time and at your own pace. Opportunities may be offered to you and others you are able to seek out for yourself.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was assigned a mentor and team leader during my placement, who were both able to help me whenever I needed it. I also secured a mentor in a different business division so that I could expand my network and learn about other areas of the business and how they function. Feedback and recognition was always available which I think is very beneficial when you are looking to grow yourself as an early careers member.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • My internship was 100% remote due to Covid-19, I only managed to attend the office once within the 13 months. Even working remotely, everyone was so welcoming and the number of individuals who would be willing to give up 30 minutes plus of their working day to sit on a call with you and discuss their career/ job role and even your career aspirations was amazing. Not once was I ever refused a call with someone for a networking call. There are plenty of resource groups to get involved with to celebrate site events or diversity vents eg. Chinese New Year/ Christmas too if you wanted to get really stuck in with the company culture. There is also a fab bond and community just within all of the interns that enrol that year too.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time at HPE. The people, the opportunities and the over all experience have been fantastic. Although the job role is not something I plan on continuing into the future, I have developed so many skills and insights that will forever be with me as I enter the working world when I graduate. There were times when there was a lot going on and there were quieter moments when i had a chance to pursue other activities. Each bringing with them different chances to manage highly intensive scenarios and additional opportunities.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise
  • Always be yourself, they are looking for people not robots! If you are open minded, a quick learner and willing to try something new you will be fantastic. An openminded mindset will help you greatly, and if you have interests in other business areas beyond the role you are applying for, don't be afraid to mention it! - you will have time during the placement for you to explore other business areas and meet other people. And if you do not get the role that time round, but showed an interest in a different business area where they believe you could sit well, they will talk to the other recruiting unit to see if you can also be seen there too.
